Practice Your Viola!
Introduction
Welcome to the Brenner studio online!
As a violist, your bow is about 80% of your sound! It is how you speak on the viola.
It is crucial to have good bow technique to be a professional violist.
This class is designed with that in mind.
You will see video demonstrations of proper bow technique performed by a professional violist, then you will have a chance to practice those techniques.
Please go through the class in the order on the menu bar, from top to bottom. It is in order from easier to more difficult.
Materials
You will need a viola and bow, a music stand, a mirror, a metronome, a pencil, a computer with a printer and online access, either an audio or video recording device.
Practice
The private lesson is a perfect learning environment. The teacher gives one-to-one instruction and corrects mistakes on the spot.
The problems occur in the practice room. That is when we are on our own to remember what the teacher has demonstrated during the lesson.
We must drill those techniques until they become natural.
When we practice a technique incorrectly, we are corrected during the lesson and sent home to practice the same material again.
This site is designed to help alleviate some of those problems.
